Coal tar. Hormone-disrupting phthalates. Cancer-linked parabens.
These are just some of the questionable ingredients allowed in cosmetics.
It’s been more than 80 years since cosmetics regulations were updated in the U.S. In that time, Europe has banned or restricted more than a thousand cosmetics ingredients, while the U.S. has banned only nine ingredients for safety reasons. Current standards are so weak, the FDA is powerless to investigate problematic ingredients or even recall products we know are dangerous.
It’s time for real cosmetics safety.
Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are preparing to reintroduce a bill that would finally bring cosmetics regulations into the 21st century and put consumers’ health first. This legislation is gaining momentum on both sides of the aisle, but your senators need to hear from you.
