The Deny Americans the Right to Know – or DARK – Act would prevent states from adopting labeling laws for genetically engineered foods and undo any existing state labeling laws, while making it harder for the federal Food and Drug Administration to require national GE labeling in the future.
Monsanto, the Grocery Manufacturers Association (an industry front group) and others have already spent more than $100 million to keep consumers in the dark in Washington State, California, Oregon and Colorado. With millions more at their disposal, you can bet that Big Food will be pulling out all the stops to get a reprehensible anti-labeling bill passed THIS YEAR. We need a supernova of opposition right now if we’re going to stop it.
